Bean Guide

A few years ago it would be unthinkable to need to discuss the different types of beans we sell, but times have changed. Now on any given day we could have four or or more varieties of green beans on the market floor. It may feel like overkill but it doesn’t need to be overly complicated. The way we grow beans is by planting several crops throughout the season. Each crop will be picked between one and three times as the beans continue to mature on the plant. We harvest all of our beans by hand and each crop lasts about two weeks once we start to pick it before we move on to the next one.

Fresh green and wax beans are picked young and tender, Lima and shell beans are picked later after the seeds are fully developed as those are the portion of the plant one prepares. We do change varieties often, even within a single week based on which beans are best on a given day. So even if you have a favorite, be assured that what is available on the stand is the best option right now, and hopefully yours will be in soon.
