Homegrown abundance.

May 31, 2012

Well, that is it. these fields of ours are just doing so well we are giving up. We can’t haul all of this in every day, so now you are just going to have to come out to the field to get it and eat dinner. Well at least once.

Volante Farms is thrilled to announce our first ever Dinner in the Field, to be held Thursday, July 19, 2012. With Todd on-board and leading the charge we are finally able to bring true farm to table dining to Needham. So start your dialing fingers, tickets go on sale first thing tomorrow morning and are very limited. For more information see our page dedicated to it here: Dinner in the Field.

By mid-July we should have a pretty full array of produce to choose from, even our own corn. But Todd will not be giving away his menu any time soon, as it will only contain the freshest ingredients from the field that day. He will only say for now that there will be four exquisite family style courses, paired with wine presented by Urban Grape of Chestnut Hill, all for only $95.

But there is no time to waste, tickets are going to go quick, and for that matter we have produce that needs to be lauded right now. Even before the anticipated pea and strawberry harvests begin, we have been filling the stand with more and more vegetable goodness each day. We are currently harvesting:

  • Red and Green Boston, Green Ice, Buttercrunch, Red Leaf Lettuce

Sweet salad turnips, nice even ready to eat raw.

  • Red, Easter Egg and new D’avignon Radish
  • Red and White Summer Salad Turnips,  new in 2012
  • Red and Green Spinach
  • Beet greens
  • Scallions
  • Kale
  • Bok Choy
  • Mint
  • and soon much more!

A mild French Radish, delicate in taste and texture makes a limited run in our field.
