The Interim

November 16, 2011

It has been a few weeks since we shut down for the produce season and it is clear we have been missed. Despite the travails created by the construction project on the corner, plenty of customers have been stopping by to check in and see what we are up to.

No really, we'll have this lot open by next week.

The building is really starting to coalesce. When you come down this holiday season you will be surprised by both the size and progress of the building. And you can start next week, the day after Thanksgiving, when we reopen.

Our winter berry harvest is glorious this year.

We have spent the past two weeks breaking down the produce market and transforming it into a winter wonderland. We will be operating out of the Greenhouse again this season, with trees for sale out front and wreaths, greens, garland, lights, pointsettias, and all sorts of deco and trim a tree products on the inside.

One of several "fabulous" demo trees in this year's trim a tree shop.

Out in the field we have been cleaning up the final remnants of the produce season. There is still a bit of lettuce and broccoli that we are sharing with the deer at this point, but not much else. This weeks harvest consisted of a heavy haul of winter berry branches and rose berries. We also started collecting white pine brush. We’ll have all these bunched and ready for your decorating needs by the end of next week.  We have been splitting firewood and bundling it, so in the case it does ever cool down to seasonal temperatures you can have a toasty fire crackling away.

Trees will be arriving beginning this Friday, and we will spend the weekend unloading, unwrapping and tagging them.

Fraser firs like these at our Standish field will be making their way down from Canada this weekend.

The biggest change you will notice right away on your next visit is a newly designed parking lot. The construction team has been working on re-grading the parking lot this week and the plan is to have it paved right before Thanksgiving. The entrance has been moved further down Forest Street, away from the intersection with Central. There is an additional entrance going in along Central Avenue. So take your time on the approach as traffic patterns will have changed.

If you are  starting to plan your post-dining shopping plans for next week, note that our holiday open house will be Sunday night Nov 27 from 5-7 pm. Refreshments, door prizes, music and even a visit from Santa. More on this to come, check back here next week.
