Last Weekend in our Current Farmstand!

August 11, 2011

The future location of our Farmstand!

If you have taken a stroll through our greenhouse recently you’ll have noticed that it looks a little bare. We have been getting ready for our next transition!

On Monday night August 15th we will be closing at our regular time at 6:30 and moving all farmstand operations to Bay 2 of our greenhouse! While this may seem like a strange place to have a farmstand, we actually think it will be quite unique. You’ll be able to shop in a cool environment with shade curtains and sun umbrellas to protect the produce. You will also be able to glance at our beautiful flowers while shopping for your favorite produce and baked goods, thus making your trip more of a one-stop shopping experience.

We will still carry all the same products you’ve come to be familiar with, so basically the only thing that we’re changing is our location!

more of these gorgeous perennial combos coming tomorrow!

That being said, this weekend will be our last one in our current farmstand! Please stop by and help us commemorate this structure that has served us well for 30 years. This Saturday is one of our biggest events that goes on all day, our 6th Annual Farm Field Day. A couple of new things have just been added for Saturday: we’ll have a crew from VitaCoco down here to sample out their tasty and nutritious Coconut Water products. We will also be having Linda from T’ART here to sample as well! If you have tried her tarts before, you know why they’re so popular! Stop by and see for yourself.

Flamingo feather celosia - great for your cutting garden! We grow this variety in the field for our cut flowers!

As mentioned in previous posts, we will also be handing out samples of Crescent Ridge Ice Cream as a look ahead to what we’ll be selling in our new farmstand, opening next year.

Other events for Farm Field Day include Tours of our Field at 10am, 12noon and 2pm.

There is still time to sign up for our Customer Cooking Contest as well! This takes place at 11am and is a casual, fun event for all ages! If you’re interested send an email with your name and phone number to info@volantefarms.com to sign up today! Judges include two local chefs and last year’s contest winner, and there are over $250 in local gift cards to win! You also get 10% off for the whole day if you participate. All you have to do is make a dish with our Homegrown veggies/fruit, bring enough of the dish for judges to sample, and bring a copy of your recipe! It’s THAT easy! Sign up today and see what all the buzz is about!

Mum's the word!

We are getting a new shipment of mums, other annuals and perennials in at some point tomorrow. It’s beginning to look a lot like mum season around here! If you aren’t quite ready for mums yet, it’s okay. We have tons of other gorgeous plants available to keep your garden or container looking full and colorful.

The field crew has been picking tons of gorgeous produce from the fields – we have lots of summer squash, cucumbers, peppers (green, purple, white, black), beans… the list goes on!

The lettuce in particular is so vivid when they pick it first thing in the morning – when they dropped it off at the farmstand to be washed this morning, I couldn’t help but take a picture of it! We are picking “Reflection” for corn right now, another butter and sugar sweet variety that tastes great!

Hope to see everyone down here this weekend enjoying yet another one of our free events that we love to host! We couldn’t put on these events without your interest and feedback, so thank you!

Have a great rest of your week – the weekend is fast approaching!!!
