Believe it or not,

February 8, 2011

There is quite a lot going on down here at Volante’s. And it isn’t just shoveling. Okay, it is mostly shoveling, but it seems we have turned a corner on winter. We have been hard at work planning the year ahead, which will have plenty of your favorites and plenty of new offerings. You might remember back in the fall we were constructing two new growing houses behind our large glass house. Those are up and covered, we are still in the process of wiring and plumbing, but with luck we will be in them in a few more weeks with plants. It means some of our greenhouses will not get used for the first time in decades. This is a huge step on the way to deconstructing many of our existing structures and replacing them this fall with a shiny and modern farm stand.

This season marks Volante’s 50th season growing in Needham, and our 94th season as a market. There will be a lot of changes in your shopping experience over the next year and we are hoping that they all are for the better, and we will do our best to keep you updated. It is your support that have helped us be so successful in the past and we are grateful. To keep abreast of what is happening remember to check back here often, and be sure to join our email list. To sign up email and we will be sure to add you.

So aside from snow and construction projects, a few things have to proceed as normal. We get so many questions about what we do the rest of the year. In fact everyone is not on vacation. We have spent a few weeks filling flats with soil and getting them ready for spring transplants. We have even begun transplanting cuttings and seedlings into hanging baskets, ready for an early Mother’s Day.

Soil flats stacked and waiting for seedlings.

So even though there isn’t much to see down here right now. Soon, or later, the snow will melt and we will be raring to go. Thanks again for a great year past and we can’t wait to see you this spring!
