5th Annual Field Day and Cooking Contest this Saturday, July 24th

July 22, 2010

Things are pretty busy down here. So much going on and we’ve barely kept you up. Hopefully you are well aware of all the new items coming in all the time. We have had homegrown corn for a few weeks already. Massachusetts grown peaches, white peaches and plums from Sunnycrest Orchards in Sterling MA have also been available under the tent for a little over a week now. We are seeing colorful beets and carrots from the field into the stand and all manner of beans, even the beautiful pink and white shell beans.  We even picked our first homegrown tomatoes today, Early Girls and all sorts of cherries and even a few of our own heirlooms. Additionally this week has seen homegrown green, purple, black, and white bell peppers and all types of eggplant. We are really getting into the real summer season now.

If you haven’t seen enough of us in person or in the local media lately, make a plan to come down this Saturday for our 5th annual Field Day and cooking contest. Field tours of our home field will begin at 10 am, noon and 2pm, during which you can see some of our corn, bean, summer squash and cuke, lettuce and cutting flowers growing right in the field. Learn a little about our growing practices and use the opportunity to get ideas for your small-scale garden at home. It is a great opportunity to get the family out into the farm and see where those great vegetables originate.

We are holding our popular cooking contest again as well. Judged by local chefs and foodies, your dish made with our homegrown fruits and vegetables could net you $100 in gift cards to Volante’s and other local businesses. 2nd prize is a $25 gift card to Volante’s.

If you are interested, you need to pre-register with us. You must bring a copy of recipe with you and it must contain Volante Farms homegrown vegetables and/or fruit. You need to bring enough of your prepared dish for at least the 4 judges to sample. Judging will take place live at 11 am. To register please fill out a form at our register with your name and a contact phone number.

Can’t wait to see you down here.
