Not Your Average Cooking Demo

July 17, 2010
For those of you who stopped by today between 10 and 12:30, you got to experience the delicious cooking demonstration by Chef Steve from Not Your Average Joe’s in Needham. If the smell of pasta primavera didn’t quite make it to your door to lure you in, don’t worry because we’ll have a recipe for the dish posted right here on our blog very soon.

Chef Steve stirs up his delicious dish for his hungry onlookers.

A close shot of the green primavera - before he added the pasta.

Chef Steve cooked up a wonderful green Pasta Primavera with a light white wine-cream sauce. He used our homegrown broccoli, zucchini, cousa squash (yup, that’s the light green one), and peas. He even mixed in some asparagus and pesto. But not just any pesto – his secret ingredient? Pistachios! Listen to Chef Steve’s description in the following clip:

Don’t forget on Saturday July 24th we’re having our 5th Annual Farm Field Day!! If you think you have a recipe worth raving about, don’t forget to show it off at our Customer Cooking Contest! Remember to pre-register for the cooking contest if you’re interested by emailing Local celebrity  judges will rate your dish and the 2010 winners will be announced! This year’s judges include: Ivan from Stone Hearth Pizza, Dave from Sweet Basil, and a few others that we will announce later in the week (oh, the suspense!) First place receives over $100 in gift cards to Volante Farms and other local restaurants/shops. Second place gets over $50 in gift cards, so start cooking!

We also have tours of our field scheduled for 10am, 12 noon, and 2pm! So don’t miss those – Steve will be leading groups through our home field and telling everyone how we do things here on the farm!

Hope to see you down at the farm this week – especially for the event on Saturday. Until then, keep thinking green : )
