It stopped raining
For a moment. You may have noticed. We did, and wow is it Summer now. I’ve got so much to update you guys on, but for the quick notes, we have some great news! Those Sugar Snap Peas are here and they aren’t alone. We are picking homegrown kale for the first time and even a few early cabbages. Better than these, by some standards, is the return of green beans. Fresh on the stand, we picked our first 6 bushels of Provider Green Beans today.
This Early variety has a bit more fiber than the main season ones we grow, with thick walls and a light green tint. Wax and Romano beans are on the verge, expect to see them prior to the 4th. Pickle cucumbers have started to trickle in as well, and we should be picking them every other day from now until frost!
Just to take a moment, some of the crew wanted to say hello to their families back in Jamaica via the blog. It is a good opportunity to remind you, our customers, that for all the modernization Volante’s has moved toward in the greenhouses and in the fields in the last years, our hands are still on. Every berry, bean, squash, ear of corn, head of lettuce, will be hand picked by us, quality sorted, cleaned and presented to you at its peak in the farm stand. There is a tremendous amount of work on the harvesting and cultivating end of things to ensure a quality product reaches you, and these guys here are an integral part of the operation. Thanks for appreciating it and choosing to shop with us! More on our hopeful rebound from June shortly.
